When EGG by Susan Lazar asked me to write about what inspired me, I gave it hard think. Creating images. Cooking. Travel. Yoga. But what truly inspires me, is being a mother, plain and simple.
Who knew that becoming a mother would change me so. The shift from woman to mother sent me on a journey. There is a true evolution from woman to mother. Motherhood means growth. Coming into who we are as women. The strength. The power. The softness. The opening up. Connecting to who I wanted to be as a mother. Connecting to the mother in other women. Feeling the true strength of what women can be. Empowering my daughter to know that strength.
There are so many wonderful things that I want to share with my daughter in this world. The goodness of people. Different cultures and the curiosity of how wonderful and different we all are, but at the core , the same. How to let her fall and recover without swooping in to save her. How to love and cherish her without smothering her. How to navigate the issues that I myself have not figured out.
Motherhood is the best gift life has given me. It has showed me who I truly am, my purpose, and given my work meaning. It’s one of the hardest, craziest, most painful and joyful jobs any woman could have. I feel amazingly blessed that I have been given this gift, and hope that I can continue to nurture, mess up and fall down, get back up, and keep learning over and over.
