Lately I’ve been thinking about all the milestones I’ve shared with my daughter, Mikah.
Because she’s my first and only child, all her FIRSTS were also FIRSTS for me as a mom! Her first foods, first steps, first day of school and on and on.
I wish we could stop time and keep all these memories in a safe place and never forget them. Before Mikah was born, I opened an email account for her and started writing her letters while she was still in my belly! Now I send her photos and notes every week that she’ll be able to read when she gets older. She’ll have her whole life emailed to her. What did we do before technology?!
Recently we’ve experienced her first lost tooth. For her it’s a big adventure - writing notes to the Tooth Fairy and then receiving money and a note in the morning …She was so excited!!!! And also amazed that the tooth fairy found us all the way in Tel Aviv where we live.
For me, it’s a sign and reminder that time is marching on and my baby is growing up. She’s literally losing her “baby teeth” and getting big ones. I’m excited for her and also a little weepy over the thought that she’s growing up so fast.
Through the lost tooth process, Mikah also faced her own sense of wonder. Losing a tooth can be pretty confusing if you don’t understand that another tooth is coming in right behind it. We also received notes from the tooth fairy telling us we need to keep brushing, and eat more healthy snacks . Her toothless smile and new sense of responsibility to keep her teeth healthy has made this new adventure one of the best milestones yet!
